Veteran's Day

I am a very patriotic person. The red, white, and blue is always flying high around our house. I am grateful for the freedoms that we have as American citizens. I am keenly aware that freedom is not free. There are many who paid a great price to protect our country. Some paid the ultimate price. The Bible says that we are to give honor to whom honor is due (Romans 13:7). Today is Veteran’s Day. It is a day for men to give honor to whom honor is due. It is a day for us to give thanks to the Lord for those who have served and are serving our country. They have spent long periods of time away from home. They have risked their lives to keep us free. One of our former neighbors was a WW2 vet. He joined the Navy before high school graduation and was sent to war. He sacrificed his high school graduation to serve our country. It’s pretty cool that over 60 years later his former high school honored him by inviting him to their graduation ceremony and presenting him with a high school diploma. My grandfather and grandmother were married less than a month after the attack on Pearl Harbor. My grandfather joined the Navy shortly thereafter. When he was sent to the Pacific on a destroyer, my grandmother was pregnant with my aunt. My grandfather did not see her until she was 18 months old due to his service to our country. Some sacrificed much more. All gave some and some gave all. Let us remember. Let us be grateful. Let us give thanks to the Lord. Let us say, “Thank you” to a veteran today!
