The Story of Shammah – Ditch the Mossy Oak

When Shammah went out to fight the Philistines, it is interesting to note where he took his stand. The Bible states in 2 Samuel 23:12 that he stationed himself in the middle of the field. He went right out in the open and took his stand. He didn’t hide behind a tree and shoot a few arrows at the enemy. He made no attempt to conceal himself. It is really hard to hide in the middle of a bean patch. He also made no attempt to blend in with his surroundings. He was there to defeat the enemy not blend in with the environment.

Far too many men are wearing Mossy Oak. I like wearing camo as much as the next guy. There were times in my life when camo was my preferred clothing for all occasions whether I was going to the woods or to the store. Mossy Oak is designed to help you blend into the woods around you so you will not be seen. That’s great for hunting. But for Christian men, our calling is to stand up for truth not blend in with the world around us. I heard a coach recently saying that his team needed to man up. I think there are many men who profess to know Christ who need to man up as well. We need to boldly make a stand for the Lord right out in the open. No blending in with the world. No Mossy Oak. Your family needs to see that it is important to boldly stand for the Lord. They need to know that it is not acceptable to blend in with the world. As men, we are to set an example for those around us. We must show the way with our lives. Sometimes that means we must take a stand in the middle of a bean patch. Out in the open for all to see. Ditch the Mossy Oak.
