The Story of Shammah – The Battle is the Lord’s

I think Shammah was a man’s man. I think he was a warrior who was brave and courageous. He was willing to risk his life in defense of God’s people. He stood in that field alone and fought with every ounce of strength that he possessed. I think we need more men like Shammah. Men who are brave. Men who are strong. Men who can fight and bleed and yet stay in the fight. Men who stand up instead of running away. We need men like that in our country. We need men like that in our churches.

We must realize, however, that even though we must be willing to stand alone, we will never really stand alone. The Lord will stand with us. Shammah fought the battle, but the Lord gave the victory. Shammah went out into that field with faith and confidence in the Lord. He believed that God would use him to bring the victory. A godly man must never place his trust in himself. Our confidence must be in the Lord. The battle belongs to the Lord. We must move out onto the battlefield with our faith firmly in the Lord. Our trust must not be in anyone or anything else. “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7)
