Everyday Courage

Courage is expressed in many different ways. Courage is doing the right thing when it needs to be done. Sometimes we need the big moment type of courage. This is needed to face a lion in a pit on a snowy day. This is the Captain America hero type of courage. But let’s not forget that we also need everyday courage. This is the kind of courage that is takes to stand for Christ in the hallways of your school. This is the courage to be a witness around the water cooler at work. This is the courage to love your wife as Christ loved the church. Courage shows up in the big moments for sure but it also shows up on Saturday morning. Everyday courage is needed to set a godly example for your children and grandchildren to follow. It is the courage needed to say “No” to that fishing trip so you can lead your family to church on Sunday morning. This is the daily courage that is needed to let go of bitterness so you can have a healthy relationship with your family. This is the courage that is needed to stop thinking only of yourself and to start thinking of others. They don’t often write books about everyday heroes who live with everyday courage. But these are the people who actually influence our lives the most. A godly grandfather. A dad who just lives for Jesus every day. No show. No flash. But every day doing the right thing when it needs to be done. I pray that the Lord will develop everyday courage in us. Courage to live for Jesus is not just for the big moments. It is for every day.
